Every first Sunday of the month, in Farfa, a characteristic hamlet in the municipality of Fara Sabina, there is one of the most important events in Central Italy: the market of antiques, crafts, modern antiques and collectables, with sellers of ceramics and textiles from every corner of Lazio and the surrounding regions. A wonderful visit to the Erboristeria di Monastica Officina, with a selection of food and cosmetic products from the Monasteries of Italy and Europe and special packages to buy of herbal teas, ointments, liqueurs, honey and jams. Hopping from one workshop of skilled craftsmen to another, you should also visit the Abbey of Farfa and its Library, declared a National Monument, while enjoying the beautiful views of Farfa and strolling around the historic village of Fara Sabina. An unmissable stop is the ancient Renaissance bread oven on the ground floor of the “Monte Frumentario,” amidst the intoxicating scents of bread made as in the past, with the same ingredients and natural yeast, as well as other tasty products.
Take advantage of the opportunity to go to the Osteria Nuova market fair, held on every first Sunday of the month, which renews the tradition of medieval fairs with meetings and exchanges: clothing, household utensils and decorative objects, alongside livestock, tools and agricultural machinery, gastronomic specialties such as the famous Sabina PDO extra virgin olive oil, honey, cherries and porchetta. An excellent way to spend a day filled with culture, tradition and typical food and wine.
Every third weekend of the month, in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, there is the Antiques Show and Market of Rieti. Wandering among the stalls of the market, in Piazza del Comune, the historic heart of Rieti, and in the surrounding streets, enthusiasts and collectors can find memorabilia and precious objects. The right opportunity “for all wallets” to buy more- or less-valuable antiques and rare items.
