The 2026 Olympic Torch Relay, a Journey Through Lazio

Before the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, scheduled for February 6–22, 2026, a 63-day Olympic Torch Relay of approximately 12,000 km, a symbol of peace and unity among peoples, will cross the country to celebrate Italian excellences.

This extraordinary journey will cover the most significant places in Lazio, with a particular focus on UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Here are the stops

On Saturday, December 6, the torch relay will depart from the Stadio dei Marmi Pietro Mennea in Rome, to illuminate the capital’s most symbolic sites, including St. Peter’s Square, Castel Sant’Angelo, Largo Argentina, Circus Maximus, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, Piazza Venezia, and Piazza del Popolo.

On Sunday, December 7, the torch will depart from the Appian Way and continue towards the archaeological site of Ostia, before stopping in Tivoli, home to Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este, Civitavecchia, Tarquinia with its Etruscan Tombs, and Viterbo, the City of the Popes.

On Monday, December 8, it will reach Montefiascone, and then Rieti.

From there the torch relay will return to Lazio immediately after Christmas. On Friday, December 26, it will illuminate Minturno, Formia, Gaeta, Sabaudia, San Felice Circeo and LatinaOn Saturday, December 27, the torchbearer will reach Sermoneta, Frosinone and Cassino and finally, on Saturday, January 3, 2026 Amatrice
