The Lipizzan Horse Breeding Tradition in Lazio, in Montelibretti in particular, was inscribed in the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2022.
The ASCAL State Farm, managed by CREA, represents for Montelibretti and the whole region a prestigious example of Lipizzan horses preservation, an authentic historical and cultural heritage, unique all over the world.
Italian Lipizzan horse breeding dates back to 1919, when a group of ranchers from the territories of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire moved to Italy at the end of the First World War. Since then, the tradition of keeping the historical lineage intact has been preserved. Lipizzan horses stand out for their elegant, noble bearing, arched neck, and robust build.
Today, the Montelibretti horse farm represents an excellence in the conservation of equine biodiversity, the protection of a historic genetic heritage, and the scientific research in livestock breeding.
