The reopening of the National Archaeological Museum of Civitavecchia

The National Archaeological Museum of Civitavecchia (MANC) will reopen on September 25, 2026, after the renovation of the building, the exhibition halls, the collections, and the entire museum layout.

On September 25 and 26, the director and the staff will organize guided tours included in the ticket price.

Reconstructions, 3D and tactile scale models, video projections, multimedia contents, and immersive technologies will enrich the archaeological exhibition, and make visitors experience a culture spanning from the Etruscan and Roman eras, through the Middle Ages, and up to the town’s most recent history.

The tour of MAN in Civitavecchia includes four levels.

The ground floor houses two iconic masterpieces, the monumental statues of Athena Parthenos and Apollo-Helios.

The first floor is dedicated to the history of the territory, from Prehistory to the Etruscan and Roman Eras, with a special focus on the Etruscan Sanctuary of Punta della Vipera.

On the second floor, the exhibition is centred on the founding and development of Centumcellae, the large port commissioned by the Emperor Trajan, as well as the Taurine Baths, and the villas that once stood along the coastline.

The third floor displays artifacts previously preserved in warehouses or seized. But the true jewels of the museum are an extraordinary Etruscan cinerary urn from the area of Caere, today’s Cerveteri, and the unique, extraordinary Sarcophagus of the Spouses.
