From July 10 to November 15, 2026, at the National Archaeological Museum of Tarquinia, the exhibition “La Grande Pittura Funeraria tra Tarquinia e Orvieto” will take place.
Extraordinary Etruscan paintings from the tombs of Tarquinia and Orvieto will make it possible to visitors to discover new perspectives on the masterpieces of the period and the relationship between the two main towns in Etruria.
The project, curated by Vincenzo Bellelli, Director of the Archaeological Park of Cerveteri and Tarquinia, and Maria Cristina Tomasetti, restorer and curator of the PACT, was born from the mutual collaboration among the National Museums. The famous Golini I and II tombs will be visible again, alongside the reconstructed Bruschi Tomb, assembled for the first time in the Tarquinia Museum. The exhibition also features numerous artifacts of exceptional archaeological interest and some impressive images, such a portrait of a young woman gazing at herself in a mirror held by a maidservant, a unique depiction in the Etruscan funerary art.
The inauguration of the initiative coincides with the complete renovation of the Hall of the Painted Tombs, which houses the four most important burials from the necropolis: the Tombs of the Triclinium, the Chariots, the Ship, and the Olympics.
