Frosinone stands between the Ernici and Lepini mountains and dominates from a hilltop the great plain of the Sacco River with a magnificent 360-degree view.

Frosinone Belvedere

Frosinone Belvedere

A visit to the city could start right from Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the highest point of the city from which there is a beautiful view of the Sacco plain and villages of ‘Ciociaria’, including Alatri and Veroli. In twilight and moonlight the view from here is even more special.

Just below the Belvedere is Piazza della Libertà. Here is the Government Palace and the Monument to the Heroes of the Italian Risorgimento.

Madonna del Buon Consiglio inside the Church of San Benedetto

Madonna del Buon Consiglio inside the Church of San Benedetto

Very close to the Government Palace is the ancient Church of San Benedetto, one of the very few in Frosinone spared from the bombings of Second World War. The painting inside, Madonna del Buon Consiglio, is very interesting. The story goes that on July 10, 1796, a miracle occurred here; the Madonna’s face changed color. She opened her eyes and wept as she looked at the Child Jesus. The miracle repeated for six months.

Il Campanile di Frosinone domina tutta la città

Frosinone’s Bell Tower

In Frosinone are other magnificent religious buildings of greatest significance. Among them is the splendid Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta with its 40-meter-high Bell Tower. The square base building has mullioned windows and a clock on each of the four sides and dominates the entire city.

Two kilometers away from the city center there is Santuario della Madonna della Neve. In 1685, when it was still a small chapel, the citizens witnessed an amazing miracle: the face of Our Lady began to sweat white drops. Following this prodigy, the foundation stone of a larger church was laid.

In the city of Frosinone is the Licinio Refice Music Conservatory, one of the main centers of culture in Lazio. Today the center, thanks to its activities, is an international reference for the training of many young talents in jazz music and other genres.

The National and European Festival of Italian Conservatories in Vittorio Veneto Square

The National and European Festival of Italian Conservatories in Vittorio Veneto Square

Every year in July, the National and European Festival of Italian Conservatories is held in Frosinone with the purpose of bringing together young musicians and activating a strong cultural ferment in the city and the whole Ciociaria region. During the days of the Festival, many unforgettable concerts take place on the magical stage of Vittorio Veneto Square.

Not only art and history, but also nature. A short walk in Parco delle Colline is not to be missed. Here is the ‘Funari trail’, the road that craftsmen used to take to reach the area where ropes were made. Today the park hosts an amazing festival with music and international artists.

The history of the area can be ‘read’ by visiting the Archaeological Museum, which houses some of the remains of Frosinone before the extensive damage suffered in the 1300s during a terrible earthquake.

Festa della Radeca-Frosinone's historic Carnival

Festa della Radeca-Frosinone’s historic Carnival

Of particular interest is the Festa della Radeca, Frosinone’s historic Carnival to celebrate the brave rebellion of Frosinone against Napoleonic troops that took place in the late 1700s. Ten days of great celebration in the most authentic spirit of the local people, a riot of goliardia and fun.
