The municipality of Manziana is situated on a rising at the foot of the wooded Mount Calvario.
The origin of the name Manziana is a controversial matter: there are several different theories held by scholars dealing with the subject. The first hypothesis, the most common and best known, is linked to “manzo,” meaning “steer,” also present in the town’s coat of arms; however, many scholars are instead convinced that the name derives from “anitiana” stone, which is very abundant in the region.
The territory of Manziana is full of attractions, both from a historical and archaeological, as well as a naturalistic point of view. In your out-of-town trip you must not miss the municipality’s symbolic sites, namely, the Bosco di Manziana woods: one of the most fascinating and interesting green areas in the whole of Lazio. It offers unlimited opportunities for fun and excursions, and for spending a holiday in direct contact with nature.
The Caldara of Manziana: a unique environment, a phenomenon of secondary volcanism, what is left of the ancient Sabatino volcanic complex, offers visitors a phenomenal display of fauna and flora. All in a setting of birches, trees typical of northern Europe, unique to these latitudes.
But the attractions to be admired in this beautiful town do not end here. Not-to-be-missed are the Poggiaccio, the Casale delle Pietrische, the Tomba della Torara and the Tomba del Pero.
