The Museo dell’Olio della Sabina in Castelnuovo di Farfa

Our itinerary begins in the land of the ancient Sabines, in Fara Sabina, where we can taste the golden-green, fruit-flavoured extra virgin olive oil DOP, very light and with a low acidity. The importance of this renowned local product is testified by the Museo dell’Olio della Sabina in Castelnuovo di Farfa.

Olivone - Ulivo millenario

The thousand-year-old Olivone or “Gran Vecchio”

Worth a visit is Canneto Sabino, with its two thousand years old olive tree, nicknamed “Olivone” or “Gran Vecchio”, the largest one in Europe, with a trunk of approximately seven metres in diametre. The tree is located within a private property but can be visited.

Finally, do not forget to taste the delicious Frascarelli, a mixture of water and flour, topped with a tomato sauce and new olive oil.
If you prefer a stronger kind of oil, follow the Strada dell’Olio DOP di Canino, an historical route among olive trees of archaeological and cultural value. A visit to the olive groves and presses and a taste of bread and local specialities seasoned with this genuine product will allow you to experience the true essence of the villages dotting the Tuscia territory.
