Five destinations in ciociaria, where to take amazing shots of multicoloured trees

Autumn is a magical season for the enthusiasts of nature and photography. It is the time of the year when leaves change their colour and the woods stand out against the blue sky, dressed in golden orange or intense red.  Let us equip ourselves with cameras and start to discover five destinations in Ciociaria, where to take amazing shots of the multicoloured trees!

In Val Canneto, in the municipality of Settefrati, where beech woods and waterfalls create a fascinating landscape, we follow the dirt path leading to the Acqua Nera Shelter and choose a suitable position for our photographic equipment. Early in the morning in the silent forest, the dew adds an extra touch to our shots. Cobwebs in backlight on a mosaic of leaves, plenty of mushrooms and carpets of a thousand shades, a rich plunder of photos to bring home!

From the mountains, the call of the deer during their mating season echoes in the distance. From the highest peaks and with a good zoom range, it will be possible to immortalise male specimens with their imposing antlers grazing in the meadows. On the way back, a visit to the Santuario della Madonna di Canneto and the lake below is a must!

Let us reach San Donato Val di Comino, at the border with Abruzzo, and then continue towards Forca d’Acero, along an uphill climb, where the temperature changes abruptly.  The undergrowth covered with leaves, the sun peeking through the branches caressed by the light morning breeze, and the wet asphalt flowing like a river among huge trees, are perfect subjects for unforgettable shots.

Not to be missed the magical setting of the Certosa di Trisulti in Collepardo, or the small places of worship hidden in the woods and connected through religious routes, such as the Hermitage of the Madonna delle Cese, embedded in the limestone rock and surrounded by centuries-old beech trees.

Prato di Campoli a Veroli – Instagram @letizia_savelloni

In Prato di Campoli, in the green valley of Veroli, woods in different chromatic shades enrich the beauty of the Ernici Mountains. Here wide-angle lenses are essential to capture such a great splendour. If you are a lover of macro photography, the beech forest holds small, big surprises for you!

The next destination is the Castagneto Monumentale di Terelle” in the lower Ciociaria. Chestnut husks, unusual tree knots and leaves about to fall to the ground, the perfect habitat for squirrels intent on stocking up for the winter. Interacting with them can be difficult; we should invent some tricks not to bother these cute, shy animals, capable of amazing acrobatics.

Autumn has arrived, it is time to go hunting for unforgettable moments to immortalise!
