You can choose among several excursions along the ancient tracks, among the ravines and the natural waterfalls formed by the Treja River, like the famous Cascate di Monte Gelato.
This site exists since prehistoric times, as witnessed by the many traces, such as the remains of a Roman Villa from the first century BC. and an agricultural settlement from the 8th century AD, as well as a water mill built in the 19th century, which functioned until the 1960s. Other hints are the archaeological areas of Narce, with the ancient Faliscan sites, and Monte Li Santi.
Mazzano Romano
Do not miss a walk throughout the medieval village of Mazzano Romano, with its narrow streets, stairways, and alleys above a tuff spur, from where to enjoy a spectacular view.
We enter the village through an arch in the walls of the Biscia Baronial Palace. Here we find many buildings from different eras, such as the Baronial Palace of Everso and Dolce degli Anguillara from the 15th century. The Treja Valley has often been a location for western movies of the past, commercials and fiction. A large part of “Destinazione Piovarolo“, the 1956 film with Totò in the role of a stationmaster, was filmed in Mazzano Romano.
